Alpha lipoic acid, also known as thioctic acid, is a sulfur-containing fatty acid. It occurs as a coenzyme in the mitochondria of many living beings and plays an important role in energy metabolism. Alpha lipoic acid buffers free radicals and is a powerful antioxidant. It also regenerates antioxidants used in the body such as vitamin C, vitamin E, coenzyme Q10 or glutathione and thus make them available to the body again.
